1. I have been updating my computer a bit. Got a new 1920x1080 LCD monitor--- finally. I'd been raising funds since last year for this. The old incandescent monitor was really small and was completely burning my retina. I also got a new video card to go with the monitor, all thanks to my cousin, ~in-der-nacht. Finally, I moved to Windows 7. I've been using it for a month now, and I amply recommend it. I was expecting it to be a lot better than Vista (and it was) but to my surprise it also surpasses Windows XP in terms of performance.
2. College. I had heard that the second year in biology was difficult, but I certainly wasn't expecting it to be THIS difficult. There is a week of exams every two weeks and the Biochemistry lab consumes a lot of time with assignments, the class itself (which lasts 5 straight hours) and whatnot.
3.(BONUS) There has also been a lot of field work. This will be, in fact the first weekend that I get to spend at home in the entire month. I'm currently conducting a small research for the Zoology course, studying interespecific competition in two species of anole lizards.(here is a juvenile clinging on my notebook [link]) Herpetology really isn't my thing, but the results are promising so far.
I spent last weekend at Gandoca-Manzanillo, a wildlife reserve/coral reef, again for vertebrate Zoology. When setting a net for fish however, we caught something worth mentioning: bobtail squids! They are smaller cousins of cuttlefish. We caught four of them, the cutest things I've seen all month. They changed color in a matter of seconds. Here is one of the little fellas biting on my finger: [link] (The squids were then released, unharmed.)
Luckily for me, I still do love this career, it seems. So, that'd be it. I'd want to say things are getting back to normal soon, but it's only going to get worse. If you read this entire and quite boring wall of text, type 'shenanigans' in your comment and something good may be coming your way.
Thanks for reading.
